Just as Centro secured planning permission for a 24-storey apart-hotel on this site, the Coronavirus Pandemic forced a temporary end to demand for visitor accommodation. We and our Client saw an opportunity to build on the principles established in the apart-hotel permission to seek a new permission 169 new homes on site (35% affordable) in a building with a similar profile. Thus, the proposal helps to alleviate London’s severe need for new homes while providing the Client with more certain market demand for the project upon its completion. Centro secured committee approval in line with officers’ recommendation in April 2023.
